Oops! Firefox could not find http is an error message I am getting in my computer for the last few days. When I try to open in a link in new tab (Using Firefox browser), instead of showing the webpage, Firefox start showing a google page with the alert “Oops! Firefox could not find http”. If I refresh the page multiple times, it will open the link. I got the same error with many websites with Firefox and when I am browsing via different browsers, it is not causing any issues. From the latest technical discussions about this issues, I think the possible reasons and solutions for this issue (Oops! Firefox could not find http ) are:

Reasons for Oops! Firefox could not find http

Some of the reasons I found in various discussion forums and troubleshooting articles are:

1. Lower Memory and high number of Tabs opened

2. Malicious Program ( I read it as Google Virus )

3. May be DNS resolving issues

4. Security Programs stop Firefox from accessing website details

This issue mostly happen when multiple tabs are opened in your computer. Then if we try to open a new Firefox tab, it may prevent (low memory) Firefox from loading the details of the new webpage. So Firefox shows this error message instead of displaying the link. Another possibility I read is the presence of some malicious programs which affect major browsers like Firefox, IE etc. This programs stop Firefox from displaying websites and redirect firefox to Google Search with a notice Firefox could not find the website.

If the firewall installed in your computer block Firefox from accessing website details, it can cause this issue. Last possible reason is DNS failure. If your computer failed to resolve the DNS queries, Firefox couldn’t find the web page. So DNS issue is also a possible reason.

Solution to Oops! Firefox could not find http

Possible steps to fix this issue are:

1. Close unwanted Firefox tabs

2. Make sure Firefox is white listed in Firewall settings

3. Assign Open DNS or Google DNS to your computer

To get more details about assigning Open DNS in your computer follow the links below.

How to assign Open DNS in Ubuntu Linux PC

Yesterday night I actually shocked while seeing one of my website is reported as an attack site (Not this blog). In Firefox I saw the message “Reported Attack Page” and blocked access to my website. When I search my website in Google I saw the following alert on my website “This site may harm your computer”. When I click on the Google Search Result of my website, it lead to another page which says Malware Warning. It clearly shows the presence of malware in my website and it may harm my users computer. So I login to server (last time I logged is before one year, that too just upload this website) and check the source code. I really surprised to see a bunch of malicious script in my web pages. I really don’t know how it came to my website (unfortunately this is a tiny server and no access to log files). Any way here I am writing a standard procedure to handle virus infection in your website. There is no need to panic while seeing a virus infection in your website. We can fix the issue by ourselves.

How to know your website is infected by Malicious script or virus

You can check your website is free from virus or not by some simple steps. Here I am specifying some steps to check whether your website is infected with malicious code or not.

1. Check whether your Internet Security Suit block access to your website

I am using the home version of Avast in my computer. Avast blocks access to the infected website with following alert.

Like Avast, most of the Internet Security software block connection to an infected website. It will alert you that the website you are trying to connect is infected.

2. Try to Access a website via Google- Google block infected site

Google periodically checking all the websites whether it is malicious one or not. If one website is infected, Google will show you an alert “This website may harm your computer” with the Google Search result of the website.

3. Check whether Firefox block your website

Firefox and other browsers block connection to an infected website. If you try to access an infected website, you will get following message.

4. Check in Google Webmastertools to know malware infection

Google webmaster tools shows the details about the infection in your website. If your website is infected, right after login to Google webmaster account itself you can see the following alert.

You can find which pages are infected in your website by clicking More Details link. You can take this information to remove infection from your website. It is recommended to check Google webmastertools every time to check any possible malware infection in your website.

5. Online Website Scanners to check infection

There are some online tools to scan your webserver for possible malware infection. If you check in Google you can find a lot of information about it.

Read my Next Article to know how to remove infection from your website.

We all know Firefox browser by default scan a file for virus infection right after its download finish. It is for improving the security of our computer from malicious programs by preventing the chances of getting virus code into our computer from any downloaded file. Though it is a nice feature, some times we don’t need top waste our time for the default virus Scan done by Firefox browser as we have already another AntiVirus Program installed in our computer. So here I am writing the steps to disable default virus scan on downloaded files by Firefox by changing the Firefox configuration file settings.

Steps to disable automatic virus scan on downloaded files in Firefox are:

1. Open FireFox browser

2. Type about:config in the FireFox address bar and press enter

Now you will see a warning window from FireFox. You should click on I’ll be careful, I Promise! button.

3. Right click on browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone

Now click on Toggle to set the value false. Now onwards Firefox will not scan downloaded files for virus infection.

I ran into a very strange issue when Apache/PHP/MySQL.
What happend was my php code suddenly cannot connect to mysql on another machine any more. The error message is:

mysqli_connect() [function.mysqli-connect]: (HY000/2003): Can't connect to MySQL server on '218.241.156.222' (13)

The strange thing was that if I connect mySQL from command line, even run the same code by php directly from command line, it worked just fine.

After searched around, I finally found the answer. Looks like it has something to do with SELinux settings.

To fix the issue, I only need to run:

setsebool httpd_can_network_connect_db 1

Before I ran the script, the file content of /selinux/booleans/httpd_can_network_connect_db was:
0 0

After I ran the script, content changed to:
1 1
